The communities of Fort McCoy and Salt Springs are located in the Northeast corner of Marion County with Salt Springs being within the Ocala National Forest.
Salt Springs is a natural spring rising from deep within the earth. The spring gets its name from the presence of potassium, magnesium and sodium salts in the water. The Salt Springs Recreation Area offers access to the springs, swimming, snorkeling, picnic tables, and hiking trails.
Salt Springs and Fort McCoy are popular destinations for those who enjoy the outdoors. With many small ponds and larger lakes (Lake Kerr & Lake George), along with the Ocklawaha and St. Johns rivers, the area offers an abundance of camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and trails that offer endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. If you’re lucky, you might get to see a black bear!
